Installation for Luxury Vinyl Floors

Our new Metroflor Konecto floors are in and looking GREAT. They've exceeded our expectations on so many levels. I thought I'd walk you through the installation process in case you're thinking of replacing your own flooring. {BTW, I highly recommend the Metroflor Konecto flooring we have...it can be installed over almost any subfloor with minimum disruption. It's also GAWGEOUS!!}

If you'd like to see all of the before & after photos, click here.

While we are usually DIYers, Metroflor was very kind and sent a crew over to do the install for us. This worked out great...I was able to document the entire process and take it all in. And the three guys who came were AWESOME! The floors were complete in ONE day!

Goodbye & Good Riddance, Carpet!!

An additional step that the install crew performed {that we wouldn't have been able to do on our own}: they cut into the bottom of the masonry on our fireplace so the flooring would slide right under. This is the difference between a pro job and our DIY jobs: when we installed Pergo into a previous home, we used white quarter-round around the fireplace. It stuck out like crazy {as in appearance-wise...not physically}. The way these guys did it made for a beautiful, seamless finish.

Perfection.

My new friend, Javier, is filling in imperfections in the cement with a cementitous patching compound.

More patching compound was used to fill in the holes from the tack strips.

 Smoothing the concrete with scrapers.

Transition metal pieces were installed prior to the flooring going down. They pulled out the old quarter round and installed new on top of the new transition pieces...loving the detail they used.

And the magic begins...
Konecto represents the newest generation of high-quality floating resilient plank and tile flooring:
the first to introduce a glueless, innovative Grip-Strip technology, which you can see being used here.

In no time, they were almost done with the living area...I was blown away by how fast this stuff goes down. Awesome product.

Only a few little pieces left.

After the all the planks were laid, they turned their attention to the transition pieces {these are the pieces that sit where the planks meet a different flooring surface in another room}. Our transition pieces were made of cork.

They slip into the track that was put down and then are {rubber} hammered into place.

The quarter round goes on between the base boards and new floors...they are an obvious reminder that I desperately need to repaint my trim.

Oh, dust.
One thing that I was a complete idiot about was where I put my furniture during the install. Everyone told me to move it to the garage. But, I was a brat and threw a big stink about that. It's well over 100 degrees right now...which means even snakes and lizards are in dire need of getting out of the heat. I was terrified of some snake crawling into my couch and then staying in it once we brought the furniture back in. Did I mention I'm terrified of snakes? Yes. I truly think I'd much rather deal with a little {okay, a lot} of dust than snakes in the house.

 Um, yeah.

One last clean-up and roll with the big 100 lb. roller {this was used all day after large areas were complete}.

Hot-cha-cha!!

Again, can't say enough great things about this product. Konecto is built to last. Most collections have a tough ceramic bead finish that makes it appropriate for residential, multi-housing, education, retail, healthcare, assisted living, hospitality & corporate environments. If you'd like to find a retailer near you, email Metroflor at customerservice@metroflorcorp.com.

I Can't Wait to Mop THESE Floors! {Ironic, no?}

The irony is certainly not lost on me...my blog title is about to bite me in the tail with all of these flooring posts! HA. But, my new Metroflor Konecto floors are all installed and ready to get their first mop before all the furniture gets put back. Yesterday was so fun. I can't wait to show you the photos of the entire process. But right now...literally going to mop the floor!

{Our new floors are from Konecto's Avalon Collection in the color Guam}

Family Rules Give Away Winners

Well, I suppose it's time for me to get out of the dark ages and use Rafflecopter. That would have been WAY easier that doing this "the old fashioned way". The drawing got a bit crazy in the sense that several of you sweet friends had troubles with Linky Followers and I also had a couple of comments via Pinterest entering the give away which I went ahead and included, too. In light of the first issues, I went ahead and gave everyone the max number of entries. Which of course is equal to one entry each, which is why Random Integer thing only indicates 14 participants instead of 42. Clear as mud, no?

The winners are:

Thank you to everyone who entered!
 Congrats Jen & Adrienne. I'll be emailing you about the design process. Can't wait to get started!

Holy Cow Brownies

If you came here expecting a gluten-free, low-carb recipe, you may want to run for your life. I've yet to build up the confidence in my GF/LC recipes to post any yet...but they're coming. This however is the opposite extreme. We needed an easy dessert for a potluck and this is always a go to for me. It's a recipe that I've tinkered with over the years and finally found the combination I'm happy with.

{And you'll be so proud of me...I didn't lick/taste/inhale one bit of these. Down almost 20 pounds so far...whoop, whoop!}

Let the FUN Begin...

Our Metroflor Konecto Flooring arrived today.

Monday is installation day... we can hardly wait!

Family Rules Give Away {Sponsored by Metroflor}

{GIVE AWAY NOW CLOSED}

EDITED 6/20: I'm extending this give-away through Saturday. I just got a call from FedEx and my actual printout of this is ready. Want to show it to you guys before drawing! So, there's still time to enter! :)

I've been dreaming of the perfect thing in this really awkward & narrow spot in my house. After pinning a few ideas, I finally decided on a Family Rules Poster. I've designed the entire thing {in a very awkward, custom size...of course} and will be printing it and mod podging it on a frame my husband built for me {again with these crazy custom sizes}. Can't wait to show you the mounted piece...but, hey...isn't the design fun? I'm SUPER excited about it! {That's just some shamelessness right there.}

GIVE-AWAY:
I'd LOVE to create a CUSTOM Family Rules poster for your family! I'm giving away TWO Custom Family Rules designs {worth $50 each}. These can be ANY size you like {for your very own awkwardly-sized space}. You pick the rules {up to 20} and colors as well {if you'd like to send me a photo of your decor, I'm happy to pull the colors from it to use within the design}. I then send you a digital PDF file for you to print as you wish...you can frame it, mount it with mod-podge or display however you like {and you can print as many copies as you like as well}. You could even have it printed on canvas with those canvas deals that seem to be everywhere. Feel free to get creative...even poster board size! I can put your family's name at the top {or we can get even more creative and have it for the kids' only: "Cooper & Ainsley's Guides for Smiles", etc.}. The sky is the limit.

To enter for your chance to win a custom-designed family rules file {worth $50}, please follow the below guidelines {do any or all of the following}:

- You'll receive THREE entries for LIKING my newest sponsor, Metroflor's  Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/#!Metroflor

DIY Graduation Gift

My niece just graduated from high school and is headed to Texas Tech in the fall. Her graduation party is this weekend with my whole family {it's going to be country comin' to town, people...that's how we roll}. I wanted to give her something that she could use at school...along with a little spending money {or laundry money} as well.

Kitchen Island Transformation

Kitchen islands are a great addition to any kitchen area. We put this one together to allow for extra seating and kitchen workspace. It's not too difficult to create a DIY kitchen island with a little know-how and some cost-effective resources.

We're finally done with our island. It was definitely a labor of love...but so worth it. I want to start by saying that we were inspired to do this after seeing Heather's Island over at At the Picket Fence. She gave a fabulous tutorial...so good that I carried the photos of it on my phone around Lowe's to duplicate her hardware and such. Our end result is a bit different...but we couldn't have done the nitty gritty parts without Heather's tutorial.

Here's our version:

When Projects Go Awry: The Pallet Herb Box Revisited

Do you guys remember this post from last month?:

Yeah, me too. My Pallet Window Planter was one of my favorite projects. And although I didn't kill the herbs, I did attract a whole bunch of gnasty gnats (pun intended). And I tried everything to get rid of those things. And on top of that, mold (yes, mold) started growing on top of the soil. Gah. I felt a bit defeated since I loved my box so much. I moved it out to my front porch. It made me want to cry every time I saw it out there with the big plants....it just didn't belong outside. Especially after the labor of love that went into it.

After seeing Claire's post about her box, over at A Little Something in the Meantime...I was inspired to bring the box in, replant my herbs in my outdoor herb garden with the snakes (bleh), clean out the box (thoroughly) and repurpose it.

My heart just couldn't take it being out in the big, bad world. It belonged in my kitchen.

I decided to re-use it as my cooking-utensil caddy {the previous one was way over-stuffed...I needed something huge for my volume of junk I use to cook with}. I worried about the sealer that I applied to the inside. After scrubbing and scrubbing, I made peace with the fact that all of my utensils are always upside down in the caddy....so the side that touches food doesn't touch the sealer {and I'm not really sure that the sealer is hazardous). Taking my chances. No judging, please.

Ta-Da! I really, really like it over here with my utensils. My husband thinks it's a bit over-stuffed and messy, but hey, that's how I roll.

After seeing Claire's piece, I was inspired to add some hardware to the sides (fabulous idea, Claire). They also make it easier to just carry over to the dishwasher to reload or pull right up against the stove's side while I'm cooking.

And I think it looks great by my red mixer. It makes me want to clean it out and fill it with red utensils...how fun would that be? These are the two main colors in my kitchen, so I'm glad to have them "married" over here.

BEFORE (yeah, I know...it was a good place and purpose for it):

After (but I'm happy with how it turned out in the end):
