Home Binder

Wowsers. What a month, y'all. To say I'm ready to create a different type of post for a while is an understatement. Not that I don't love organizational posts...but, yeah. Stick a fork in me. I'm striped, dotted, & triangled out. ;)

But, truly, I hope this month has been helpful to all of you, as well. Are you ready to put your home binder together? Let's do this!

Inspiration Monday

Hi friends! Hope you're having a great weekend and kickoff to your week.

We're in the middle of some serious DIY projects over here at my house right now. My husband is off this next week, so we're trying to work hard with the time we've got. What are you up to at your place?

Summer is a great time to start those big projects, I hope you enjoy the following picks. Big projects followed by a few yummy recipes!

Free Printable Teaching Placemat

This Free Printable Teaching Placemat post is sponsored by Bounty Minion Prints.
I'm a member of the #quickerpickerupper team, but all opinions are my own.

Helping kiddos learn table manners is a great tool for life. This free printable teaching placemat is an easy visual aid to get your kitchen helpers learning to set the table for family meals.
Free Printable Teaching Placemat | Perfect to help kiddos learn to set the table for meals. | Instant download. | Laminate for durability.
As the summer progresses, we're actually doing really well with our chores, y'all (nobody is more surprised than this girl). My older son gets up before all of us in the summer (he's one of those people who seem to require very little sleep...he did not get that from his mom). He has the dishwasher unloaded and a truckload of my outdoor plants watered before I'm even stumbling to the coffee pot. He's a dream.

Not to worry, it's not all sunshine and lollipops 'round these parts. Brother bear sleeps until ten and then I become a teeth-pulling dentist trying to get him on the chore train (choo-choo...all aboard). After trial and error, we've learned that kiddo works better later in the day. So, table setting is his jam, man. He owns it.

Free Fonts for Organizational Projects (and Free Graphics, too!)

Free Fonts for Organizational Projects (and Free Graphics, too!)

Every time the electricity goes out, I'm inevitably fumbling on my phone trying to Google my provider's emergency number. Same goes for internet service. And for some reason, I feel like I have to go around the horn to get to the correct number. Or I'm sitting on my cell phone for umpteen transfers to the right department or automated "friend". Having the correct numbers in one spot will pretty much be awesomesauce for me.

Two years ago, I forgot my husband's grandma's birthday. Y'all...I felt terrible. She lives across the country from us and that's an important day for her to feel loved and received cards and calls from us. I seriously felt like dirt over it (she's super forgiving, this was all self-inflicted). Anyway. I decided to institute a date log to have everyone's birthdays close at hand. Teaching Kids To Do Laundry

Today, we're chatting about teaching kids to do laundry...so the clothes actually get clean.

Teaching Kids To Do Laundry (so the clothes actually get clean)!
Okay. True (and ridiculously embarrassing) confession. I learned to do laundry the week before I left for college. Y'all, my mom is more type-A than I am...she did every member of the household's laundry until the day they moved out. It was more of a "please don't touch my washing machine thing" more than anything else. That, and she loved doing things for us...her love language was acts of service...towards others
I remember being at college and still not having a lot of confidence in my ability to actually get my clothes clean. The first few months of school resulted in several new packs of underwear just to avoid the (dreaded) Wash-N-Tan. Honestly, I didn't avoid the place...just the Wash side of it. Because it intimidated me.
Eventually, I got over it and learned to do laundry properly.
My goal with my own kiddos has always been to equip them with these types of skills a little bit (like ten years) before I knew how to do them. Not only is it great for them, it's fabulous for me. I (unfortunately) did not inherit the gift of service to others like my precious mom...we kind of run on a "you're old enough to do it yourself" mentality around here. Right or wrong, it's how we function the best. Here's a few of my favorite tips below for teaching kids to do laundry.

Free Printable Laundry Chart

This Free Printable Laundry Chart and Instructional List is the
perfect way to help kiddos (or even adults) while doing the laundry.

Free Printable Laundry Chart & Instructions | A great way to teach kids to start doing laundry!
Sometimes people other than I do the laundry in our house. Actually, these days...most of the time. And my type-A self has just learned to be okay with it (ish). Leaving a little instructional laundry chart in the laundry room makes sure I can oversee the process without actually being a part of it. My kids have really enjoyed it, actually. Download one for your house below.

Vanilla Chai Tea Latte Ice Cream

Who wants to lug out the ice cream maker when you can whip up this Vanilla Chai Tea Latte Ice Cream in just a few minutes with a hand mixer? It's absolutely delicious, too. #IDelightinChai

Vanilla Chai Tea Latte Ice Cream | No Machine Needed and Only Four Ingredients
A few years ago, I went and bought an ice cream maker. In the five years we've had it, it's been used about five times. Um, yeah. My issue is that when I want to make ice cream, I want to make it now. I don't want to have to freeze the little bowl for 24 hours just to be able to start making my ice cream at that point. So, the whole concept of no-churn/no-machine ice cream is kind of stellar for someone like me.
And please don't give me the "just store the bowl in the freezer" speech (looking at you, mom). The last time I did that, a few months into its freezer stay, my ice cream bowl had heaps of glitter frozen to it (still not even sure how that happened). I had to wash it multiple times to remove said glitter...which caused the bowl to thaw and put me right back at square one. Big sigh of exasperation.
I simply can't handle ice cream makers, y'all. It's sad, really. But, seriously, check out how ridiculously easy this ice cream is to make (I jumped on the whole "let's make ice cream in a loaf pan thing"...it's really fun and simple!).

Inspiration Monday

Hey, hey, hey, party friends! I'm so happy you're here. My kids are out of school and our alarms are turned off...amen and hallelujah, y'all (am i right?). Flourless Chocolate Orange Torte

This Flourless Chocolate Orange Torte is our new go-to cake for celebrations.
It's made with only five ingredients: dark chocolate, eggs, butter, grated orange peel, and Young Living's Orange Essential Oil. And, it's a lot easier than you probably think.

Flourless Chocolate Orange Torte | Delicious & rich special cake for celebrations. | Easier to make than you think!
This cake has my whole heart, y'all. It's kind of incredible. Very rich...but yet, I just can't stop myself from one more bite! The orange oil in it takes it to a whole new level of flavor nirvana. I love using essential oils in cooking and baking, and orange oil is definitely one of my favorites to use. The crisp citrus flavor is such a delicious addition to baked goodies...and so much more. This recipe seems like it would be difficult, but it's really not. There's quite a few steps, but nothing too intricate. The hardest part is wrapping up your spring form pan so water can't penetrate it...after that, it's easy peasy. If you try this, I'm dying to know what you think of it. We, truly, can't get enough of it.

Free Printable Trip Planner

This Free Printable Trip Planner is the perfect thing to use in the planning stages of travel. It's a great way to get all of your family members involved in the process of putting an entire trip together. This trip planner is available in three fun and bright designs. Travel Planner Printable

When I was a kid, we would start planning a summer vacation around springtime. It wasn't always elaborate, but it was always fun to plan something to do together as a family. I distinctly remember one of the years we decided to do a bigger trip. We all wrote down where we wanted to go on a piece of paper and did the whole crumple into a hat thing...and then draw the destination. Lo and behold, my destination was drawn...Disneyland! I was seven at the time and was absolutely elated, y'all.

After the excitement died down, we pulled the other papers out of the hat to see what everyone else had written. I definitely wasn't the only Disneyland vote (I *think* we were somewhat steered in that direction...wink), but when we opened the last paper and it clearly said "Stay Home", we all about died (whaling, gnashing of teeth...it was of Biblical proportions, y'all). WHA?!? My dad, the lover of all things home, always had his own idea of a vacay. In my little-kid brain, I kept playing out what would've happen had we actually drawn that paper. The audacity.

I'm 99% sure he was joking about it, but, to this day, that is one of my most hilarious memories of family vacation planning.

Not to overly-complicate the fun of planning a vacation, I'm now more of a writer-downer with this kind of thing...I want to make sure everyone has a say in it from the get-go. Download my own favorite free printable trip planner below...to ensure you never have to "stay home"! (Sorry, Dad!)

What I Pack Inside My Carry-On Bag

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and Brita, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #BritaOnTheGo http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

It's travel season, y'all. Today, I'm sharing what I pack inside my carry-on bag. In the last 18 months, our air travel has really increased and I've picked up a few tips and tricks to make it a lot less stressful than it used to be for me. Having all of my essentials in my carry-on makes air travel a breeze.

What I Pack Inside My Carry-On Bag | From a reusable water bottle to must-have snacks. Check out easy tips on making air travel less stressful by packing the perfect carry-on backpack.
About a year ago, I made a little deal with myself to never check bags on outgoing trips again...well, at least not when traveling as a family. Traveling by myself brings about its own set of "rules"...that's for a different post entirely.
But, for family travel, we each have a wheeled bag for our clothes. And we each have a carry-on backpack for all of the things we need within reach while traveling. My kids are at the tween age, so they're pretty good travelers these days. I'm showing you my own bag below. I'm pretty meticulous when packing our backpacks. Not all airports seem to be as strict with the liquids rules as they used to be, but some are (ours is...ha!). So, I work hard to keep those liquids in the clear quart-sized bag as mandated by the TSA (one liquid bag per passenger). I also make sure that the liquid bags are in the backpacks so I don't have to open my wheelie bag in the security line (because, y'all, my underthings are in there...and I'm never in the mood to unpack and repack a wheelie bag at the airport). I can unpack my backpack (if they require it) easily and then be on my way.
One thing that can't go through security is beverages. But, I absolutely am a stickler for getting my daily water intake, especially while traveling. My new Brita Hard-Sided Filtered Water Bottle is fantastic for traveling and is another must-have in my backpack.
Check out everything I include in my backpack to make air travel much easier, below:
