This year, Cow Appreciation Day is Tuesday, July 9. This is such a fun summertime activity for little kids and big ones, too (my teenager is not above donning a mask for free chicken). I've got EVERYTHING you need for your cow attire below...just turn on your printer and free chicken is in your future. And these printables are great for more than just Cow Appreciation Day. Use your cow costume for ANYTHING, even classroom activities. Download your own free printable cow mask and spots below.

What is Cow Appreciation Day?

I got on the horn and messaged with the good folks at Chick-fil-A about this year's Cow Appreciation Day. Straight from the horse's (errrr...cow's) mouth:
  • Cow Appreciation Day will be Tuesday, July 13, 2021. UPDATE: Chick-fil-A has decided to cancel the 2021 Cow Appreciation Day, but plans to return to the tradition in 2022.
  • It is (Chick-fil-A's) day to show customer appreciation and honor (the) iconic Eat Mor Chikin® Cows.
  • On this day, anyone who comes to a Chick-fil-A restaurant wearing any sort of cow apparel will receive a free entrĂ©e.
    • This is where your printable cow mask and spots come into play!
  • Children wearing anything cow-like will receive a free Kid’s Meal.
    • I made a smaller-sized, as well as a colorable, printable cow mask and spots for the littles, too. All are included below.
  • Be sure to check out Chick-fil-A's Chicken Wire Blog on up-to-date information regarding Cow Appreciation Day.

A plain white t-shirt and a simple cow mask printable go a long way for free chicken (pictured above). I've got all of the directions below on how to put together your own ridiculously easy cow costume. Or, feel free to get elaborate with this one and make a fun family activity preparing for Cow Appreciation Day.

Colorable Cow Mask Printable
I remember first-hand how challenging it could sometimes be entertaining little ones at home all summer long. I created the colorable printable cow mask and spots for that very reason. This is also a great way for kids to really get creative with their cow costume, too. Plus, the colorable versions are a major ink-saver for your printer, as well.

Assembling Your Cow Costume

  • You'll first download and print as many cow masks and spots as your family will need for Cow Appreciation Day (it's always fun to dress up as a family).
    • You can download all of your cow masks and spots through the direct download links listed out below.
    • If you're using the colorable version, be sure to print in black and white to save yourself some ink.
    • It's also a good idea to print your mask and spots onto letter-sized white cardstock for durability (a mask printed onto regular computer paper will be quite flimsy).
  • If you're doing the colorable version of this costume, be sure to have kids color before cutting out your mask or's a bit easier to do that way.

  • If you're using the spots for a complete look, just attach them to a plain white undershirt or t-shirt.
  • Again, if you use the colorable spots, color them before cutting them out of the paper.
Easy Cow Costume
  • Since these costumes are very temporary, I use simple double-stick tape for this (often in the car in the parking lot of our Chick-fil-A before we head inside).
    • Grab Scotch Double-Stick Tape here on Amazon. I recommend the permanent version of this tape for this usage: since we're taping to fabric, it's not really permanent. But, it'll get you through a free chicken lunch.
  • If you prefer, you can hot glue your spots to your shirt, but, keep in mind, that will render your shirt useless after you're done with your cow costume.

For reference, the small mask measures 7 1/2" from ear tip to ear tip and the snout is 5" across. It should fit most kids. The large mask measures 8" across from ear tip to ear tip. Its snout is 5 1/2" inches across. All of the spots vary in sizes.

  2. Just as an FYI, I checked looked at the Chik-fIL-a website and they are postponing the appreciation day this year, but your costume fun will be handy for together time at home or again for next year.

    1. Thank you so much for this heads up. When I communicated with CFA in the spring, they were planning it. Bummer, but understandable. Appreciate your comment. xoxo
