This new DIY advent calendar of ours was born after an overload of treats in our household. I wanted a non-candy, non-material advent calendar and this one fits the bill I loaded it with 24 fun activities...everything from drinking hot chocolate, to making a family recipe together, to building a ginger bread house. There are tons of fun and meaningful activities. Download all of the free prints for this one below.

I used these fun little empty tins (they're made for crafts of homemade lip balm...that kind of thing). I purchased mine here on Amazon (they're perfect since they're sold in a set of 24 tins!).

In addition to the 24 tin containers, I also grabbed some heavy duty magnets on Amazon here.

You can definitely cut these out with scissors, but I grabbed a 1" craft punch for less than $8 on Amazon here to make this go super fast (and it was FUN!). The circles I designed were exactly one inch round.

I hot glued the activity dots on the inside of the containers and the numbers on the outside. Then I hot glued the magnets to the bottom of the tins.

Check out my video below to see how easily this came together.
And you can totally use this advent calendar on the side of the fridge for convenience.

The activities vary in difficulty. I planned mine according to our family calendar for the season...some of the more involved activities landed under dates that I knew my kids would be on their winter break for...it will help keep them busy on those days! My activities don't include any snow fun, y'all...that's not always a guarantee (especially in Texas), so I played it safe. Here is the list of activities on the printables, so you can grab all of your supplies needed ahead of time:
  • Make cookies for the neighbors.
  • Enjoy hot chocolate.
  • Read a favorite Christmas book (grab our favorite on Amazon here).
  • Make a gingerbread house (make it easy and grab a kit on Amazon here).
  • Have a pajama day.
  • Donate to the food pantry.
  • Take pictures with Santa Claus.
  • Eat a candy cane.
  • Start a new tradition.
  • Do random acts of kindness (grab my free printable notes for fun & easy RAOKs here)
  • String popcorn.
