I think a chalkboard background is the perfect neutral palette for a banner letter. You add festive ribbons and such between each letter when stringing them together to make them more festive for whatever you're decorating for. Or, just leave them as is. Chalkboard Banner Letters

I love decorating with printable banners...they pack a big bang for a little buck. And they're not overly fussy to cut out and hang. Today's set of letters are perfect for just about anything.

Chalkboard Banner Specifics

I've made these banner letters as user-friendly as possible. See all of their information below.
Chalkboard Letter Pennants

How to Download and Print these Letters:

  • Download your set of letters below.
    • Need help with downloading or or printing your letters? See my complete instructional tutorial here (it includes a step-by-step video, too).
  • This banner is for personal use. However, if you have a small shop or business and would like to carry the printed version (no digital reselling is permitted), be sure to grab a commercial license here
  • As pictured above, each pennant measures 4x5". There are four letters on each letter-sized page. Print as many as you like.
  • This banner downloads in one entire PDF or, you can select pages in two of the download platforms I provide. I go back and forth on banner downloads: some folks want individual letters per page, some feel like it's huge a waste of paper. So, yes, that is always a puzzle as to which way to head. You certainly don't have to print every letter, but again, that's how the downloads are set up.
  • I've also included a heart and exclamation mark pennant. The heart can be used as a spacer if you're using this banner for more than one word. Or, it can lengthen a banner when added to the ends.
  • Make sure you print your banner letters onto white cardstock paper. If you have stopped by this blog before, you know I'm a firm believer in the power of white cardstock...especially on banner printables. Regular copier or printer paper will curl on the ends/points of the pennants.
    • I buy all of my cardstock here on Amazon for the best price around.
    • No need for a specialty size, these free printable banner letters are designed to print onto 8.5x11" (letter-sized) pages to keep it easy.
  • Cut each pennant out around the outer edge.
  • I've got tips on stringing your banner below.

Tips for Stringing Together a Banner

As I say a lot, banners are definitely my thing. Here are some of my favorite tips, tricks, and items to use when stringing together your free printable banner letters:
  • Jute Twine is my preferred string for a banner. Baker's Twine is super cute, too, but only if your banner is shorter (five characters or less). It can't support the weight of letters as well as jute twine can.
  • There are two ways to attach your banner letters to your twine: hole punch or clothespins.
    • If using a hole punch, you'll punch a hole on the top two corners of your banner letter (two holes per letter). Then string your twine through (I prefer for my twine to lay across the back of my pennant, so I insert it from the front).
      • I prefer a smaller 1/8" hole punch (found here on Amazon) so it doesn't distract from the design of each pennant.
    • You can have a lot of fun hanging your banner with clothespins. I honestly think miniature clothespins are super cute (and their weight won't affect your banner and the way it hangs).
      • These natural colored mini clothespins (found here on Amazon) are always a good choice. I use them a lot on my banners.
      • These rainbow colored mini clothespins (found here on Amazon) are seriously fun and add a splash of color to a black and white banner.
