Spring Clean the Kitchen in Ten Easy Steps | Tips & tricks to get the hardest part of spring cleaning (the kitchen) over and done efficiently and quickly.
Now that the kitchen is done from its makeover, it's time to get in the cleaning mode...just in time for spring cleaning! Time to pull out those mops (pun completely intended, y'all) and get going.

I start spring cleaning in the kitchen from top to bottom (more or less)...working my way from the sink and surfaces all the way down to the floors. That way the dirt that is cleaned makes its way to the floor which is cleaned last. The new HEB Guide to Clean website allows you to click on a room or space and get advice for how to clean it. Click here to check it all out.
And check out my ten easy steps to spring clean the kitchen below.

1. Do the Dishes (ALL of them!)
First things first...empty that sink as well all of the kitchen's decorative dishes that may collect dust and grime (like the spoon rest and tea kettle). The dishwasher can do its thing while you clean the rest of the room. A nice smelling dishwasher detergent helps freshen up the kitchen. Grab this Mrs. Meyer's Lemon Verbena dishwasher detergent tab pack here online at HEB.

2. Make the Sink Shiny
This is one of the areas where I clean like my mom used to when I was a kid...I need my sink to smell like Comet. It was also recommended for my on the HEB cleaning site. I love this liquid version. I can scrub out scratches without damaging my new sink. Just pour and wipe. Grab some Comit Scratch-Free Soft Cleanser here at HEB.

3. Address the Appliances
Clean the outside and inside of all of the appliances (and even the pantry while you're at it). Toss out old food from the refrigerator and pantry. Clean the crumb catcher on the toaster. And shine up the cook top. Our stove is new, but man the surface of it can show the grime (as evidenced from above). The HEB cleaning site recommended these Weiman Cook Top cleaners. I love both the spray and the scrubbing pads for gently removing the gunk from the stove top. Click here for the cleaner and here for the pads.

So clean and shiny!

4. Disinfect the Touchy Spots
As crazy as this sounds, I do a walk through and think about everything that is touched in the kitchen. Because chances are...if it gets touched a lot, it has germs. From appliance knobs and handles to the tab on the toaster slot. Get all the touchy spots with disinfecting wipes like these from HEB here.

Don't forget all of your door knobs, cabinet, and drawer pulls, too.

5. Surface Cleaning
From light fixtures to countertops to cabinet doors and drawers...wipe down all of the surfaces with a good multi-surface cleaner. Grab this Lemon Verbena one here at HEB.

6. Preventative Cleaning
After the cabinets are clean, wipe them up and down with a fresh dryer sheet. Be sure to get into the moulding really well. This helps prevent new dirt and grime from creeping back on them so quickly...almost like a lovely smelling barrier! Grab there here at HEB.

7. Layer the Scents
Just like layering soaps and lotions on the body, scents can be layered in the home, too. The more layers of scent...the deeper the scent can permeate a room. I'm partial to the Lemon Verbena scent from the Mrs. Meyer's line of cleaners (they carry a HUGE variety of Mrs. Meyer's at HEB online). I try to use the different forms of it to layer my scent throughout the kitchen, including dish and hand soaps.

8. Light a Candle
A clean kitchen and a fresh-scented candle seem to go hand in hand. I grabbed this one at HEB online here. It's like my reward for an afternoon of cleaning.

9. Tend to the Floors
Now that all of the dirt you cleaned off the rest of the kitchen has landed on the floor, it's time to get after it! I use a battery-operated stick vacuum and get at it...it's more thorough than sweeping and much easier than pulling out the big vacuum. Make sure your stick vacuum fits under your toe kicks on your cabinetry. That's always such a neglected dirt trap. Use a broom to get under the stove. If you're the super thorough type, move the appliances and vacuum underneath them as well.
As ironic as this will sound from me. MOP! Mop your way right out of the kitchen. I love to use Mrs. Meyer's Lemon Verbena All-Purpose Cleaner to finish with the same scent. Grab a bottle here at HEB.

10. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and eat out that night! ;)
I mean, seriously...who wants to dirty up a nice, clean kitchen by cooking in it? I'm not even a little kidding.

Be sure to check out the new cleaning guide from HEB here...it's chocked full of cleaning info. I've been shopping at HEB since I was a tot riding in the buggy and getting free cookies at the bakery. I love that they have a fantastic online site now. I ordered all of the products featured in this post online and received them in just a couple of days.

  2. Love the kitchen! I'm a huge Mrs Meyers fan too! I was only sad that HEB didn't have the seasonal peony & lilac (at least at my store). We really love our store and can't say enough good things about it!
