These DIY Chore Boards are perfect to motivate kids to help around the house. This summer, my boys added dishwasher duties to their chore routines: they load, empty and use dishwasher detergent with ease these days. See how I made these boards below. Also, grab a fantastic coupon for Finish Detergent and a free printable for the chore cards, too.
Do your kids participate in household chores? My kids do...but to be honest, they can be more motivated by the monetary reward rather than the actual satisfaction of completing the chore. See how I made these super simple boards below for them>>>
These boards are now giving my boys the freedom to decide which chores they want to do when {although we reserve the right to make requests and there is a weekly minimum}. Our boards rotate on a weekly basis. They start on Sunday with all chore cards moved to the "to do" side. As the week goes on, chores are moved to the "done" side as they're completed. I printed several sheets of the chore cards {available free below} for the chores that are daily or occur more than once a week. Not all chores may be completed every week, but this gives them some variety and freedom in choosing. All of our chores are priced at twenty five cents...it may be hard to see in the photo, but there IS a decimal before the two! Even with just a quarter a chore, they add up quickly. We have pay day on Saturdays when we tally up the "done" side.
One chore that I'm so glad we added this summer was loading and emptying the dishwasher. They're pros at this now! This is my youngest, above. If there's anything he can't reach to put away, he knows to leave it on the countertop and we'll put it up for him.
They even love to add the Finish Powerball Dishwasher Detergent into the dispenser. The Quantum Power & Free variety detergents have less harsh chemicals than others. Plus my dishes are so sparkly...even when my boys don't rinse and scrub before adding them into the dishwasher {they don't even have to!}.
To make our chore boards, I started with a simple unfinished board from the craft store, stained clothespins and my printable chore cards {available below}. I painted the board with two colors and sanded a bit to give it an aged look. I used vinyl for the wording {I have a machine, but you can also purchase vinyl letters at a craft store}. I simply hot glued my clothespins to the board. I attached a picture hanger on the back to make it easy to hang up.
And grab this coupon to make sure your dishes are always sparkly
{even with the kiddos doing those dishes}!

ReplyDeleteSo cute!! My oldest is also motivated by money. ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Money sure does speak to the kiddos, doesn't it? Lol!
DeleteI am still able to get away with incentive tickets.....I'd like to keep it that way for as long as possible since I don't carry cash lolol
ReplyDeleteLol! I don't blame you one bit! Thanks so much for stopping by!
DeleteI love this. I've tried figuring dollar amounts on the fly and sometimes give too much for a less difficult job. This way every task is priced the same. Less confusion is key. I may try this on the refrigerator with magnet clothes pins since I'm not as crafty as you :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! Keeping it simple = success! I hope it works well for you!
DeleteSo cute and looks like a great way to get the kiddos helping.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It sure has made helping fun! ;)

ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy! Don't we all?! I may or may not have YouTube'd "how to properly load a dishwasher" Lol! ;)
