Envelope Template
The straight-line struggle is real. Without this template, most of my addressing looks like The Price is Right's  yodeling Cliff Hanger game...at a complete angle! See how easy these things are to use below.

Template Basics

Printable Envelope Template
  • First, I have this template available in seven different envelope sizes. I used the most popular envelope sizes and made specific sized templates for each one. If your envelope size isn't listed, use the number closest to it and center it over your envelope.
  • Be sure to print your template onto letter-sized cardstock. Regular paper is WAY too thin for a stencil or template of this nature.
  • The above image shows what your template will look like once you cut it out of the cardstock you printed onto. You'll need to cut out the grey boxes (I'll show you how below). If you have a stamp or sticker for your return address, you can skip cutting out the boxes in that corner.
  • The center line is for those of you who prefer a centered address on envelopes. Personally, I am a left-justified addresser, but it's total preference. If you like to center everything, that line is for you to help you line everything up.

Using an Envelope Template

Addressing Christmas Cards
  • Line up your template on top of your envelope (I'm using the A6 template on the A6 envelope pictured above). The templates will be just a bit smaller than your envelope, enabling you to see that they're in line.
  • You can write your addresses through the open boxes (as pictured above). I often use an all-caps print, which works well with these templates. However, if your print is not all caps and you're worried about fall letters (letters that go below that base line, i.e.: g, j, p, q, and y), you can write the top part of the letter, remove the template, then complete the "fall" part of the letter. Put the template back in place and continue writing.
  • If you prefer, you can use the template to lightly trace out lines with an erasable writing implement. Remove the template. Then address your envelope with a non-erasable pen. Then erase your lines.
  • Just a side note: I love these Pilot G2 Pens for addressing envelopes...especially in festive colors!

Envelope Sizes

In case you already have your envelopes on hand and aren't sure what size they are, the following are the sizes of envelopes for the templates I have available for free download.
  • A1 Envelopes - 3 5/8" x 5 1/8"
  • A2 Envelopes - 4 3/8" x 5 3/4"
  • A6 Envelopes - 4 3/4" x 6 1/2"
  • A7 Envelopes - 5 1/4" x 7 1/4"
  • A8 Envelopes - 5 1/2" x 8 1/8"
  • A9 Envelopes - 5 3/4" x 8 3/4"
  • A10 Envelopes - 6" x 9 1/2"
