Mason Jar Lid Ornaments

To crafters, it's never *too* early to get your holiday game plan in line. Today, I'm sharing some DIY Mason Jar Lid Ornaments that will look darling on your Christmas tree...they come with six free printable inserts for you to use, as well. This is a craft that can be created with simple household items (who doesn't have a couple of mason jars stashed in their cabinets?). And there are LOTS of handmade ornament ideas from my friends in this post, too.

Mason Jar Lid Ornaments
This is one of my favorite times of the year...fall fun all around, with the holidays on the horizon. And as a crafter, I'm already trying to get ahead and get a few things done before the Christmas season rolls around. These Mason Jar Lid Ornaments are the perfect little addition to your tree this year. You can customize them with extra embellishments to make them totally YOU, too. See my complete tutorial (and grab the free printable inserts) below.

Christmas Ornament Ideas
And today is also a fabulous hop with all of my favorite bloggers. We've all got some lovely handmade ornament tutorials to share with you. If you remember, I participated in this last year with a tutorial for my Handmade Jute Ornament (it was just featured in this month's Country Sampler Farmhouse Style Magazine). I have all of the links to this year's participants towards the bottom of this post.

Christmas Ornament Craft
I originally intended for these ornaments to be totally embellished with all the greens and reds (and sparkles!) of the holiday season. But, after they came together, I felt like there was some beauty in the simple, non-embellished version, too. You can see the difference above.

I created six fun designs that you can print and use inside your mason jar lid ornaments. They include a candy cane, a set of holiday bells, Santa, a snowman, a poinsettia, and a Santa hat. Each watercolor design is on top of a neutral buffalo check backdrop.

Christmas Ornament Supplies

Supplies for Mason Jar Lid Ornaments

  • mason jar lids (you'll only need the ring parts)
    • my rings were three inches wide and the insert part measures 2.75"
  • circular Christmas prints (download here or below, the Dropbox link is below if this link doesn't work for you)
  • festive baker's twine for your hanger (I grabbed the red, green, and white twine here on Amazon)
  • greenery and ribbon for embellishment (optional)
Also needed (but not pictured):
  • hot glue gun and glue
  • scissors
Printable Christmas Ornaments

  • You can download these circular inserts here. They print with these six designs on one sheet.
  • If the above link doesn't work, try the alternate Dropbox link here.

Assembling Your Mason Jar Lid Ornaments

Mason Jar Ornaments

  • After you print out your inserts, cut them out along their edges.
  • I found it easiest to pop the insert into the mason jar ring (image facing outward) and then add the hot glue on top of the backside along the edge...to kind of "seal" it in (see image above).

Printable Ornaments

  • Once your insert is glued in (and cooled), cut about 3" of your twine, loop, and glue it inside your mason jar ring (make sure it's at the top of the image, so your ornament hangs correctly).

Easy Printable Ornaments
Flipped over, you can see that they look really cute, as is. But, feel free to take them a step further and add embellishments.

Supplies for Christmas Ornaments
To embellish, simply hot glue small sprigs of faux holiday greenery around the edge of your mason jar ring. I also added a small bow at the top of mine with wire-edged holiday ribbon from the craft store.

Vintage Santa Ornament
Embellished or plain, these are a fun way to add a little vintage charm to your tree. I think the Santa design may be my favorite one.

    1. Hi Debbie-- Yes, actually the Ball brand (which is what I used) sells the ring lids on their own in many grocery stores and on Amazon. Hope this helps! xoxo

  15. Hello Kristi, you simply help me to remember my days of yore. I just love your blog. There is something exceptional about hand crafted Christmas adornments. They are made with affection and consideration, and are one of a kind to simply you and your Christmas tree, as no two will be actually the equivalent! I made improvements at school for my folks to hold tight the tree, and comparatively, my child doing likewise for me when he was a young man. Natively constructed enrichments can bring out recollections of ancient times, and some are exceptional to such an extent, that they show up on the tree a seemingly endless amount of time after year.
