Non-Sandwich Lunchbox Ideas

Thanks bunches to Robinsons Fruitshoot for sponsoring today's post.
We've got some great ideas about packing school lunches without the normal sandwich option for your kids. And a yummy drink to keep your kids hydrated and fueled for a busy afternoon.

I have one kid who loves sandwiches and one who loathes them. I find myself getting creative to make sure everyone has a good lunch...and to ensure lunchboxes come home empty. I was excited to try something new in my boys' lunches this week...Robinsons Fruitshoot Drinks. And they went over quite well.

If you follow my blog regularly, you know I'm a bit of a lunch box packing enthusiast. Small portions and creative menus help me know that my kids are getting the best lunches...and that they're actually eating the food that's packed in them. These Robinson's Fruitshoots make sure that they're staying hydrated, too.

One quick tip I wanted to share is to not overwork the lunchbox packing ritual {I've burnt out a few times along the way because of overkill}. I keep a shelf in my fridge with the essentials. And I pack more than one day's worth of lunches at a time. That way I only pack lunches a couple of evenings a week. I use the stainless containers as well as air-tight BPA free ones...so everything will stay fresh for the couple of days that they're in there. In the mornings,we grab our lunches, Robinson's Fruitshoot drinks, a couple of ice packs {throw it all in their lunch boxes} and we're ready to head to school.

For even more great tips {and lots of fun and games for your kiddos} from Robinson's, visit their Facebook page here.

Here's a few of my lunch packing plans that are perfect for your non-sandwich eaters {tell me I'm not the only one that has one?}>>>

More than anything else, my kids love taking a lunch full of leftovers! The rice and beans are still yummy the next day {I did leave the enchiladas out...too messy!}. Paired with some fruit, veggies and a Fruitshoot and it's good to go! I really liked this variety of the Fruitshoot the best...no sugar added!

And who says breakfast can't be for lunch? Here I've packed a boiled egg {I molded it to take the star shape}, Oatmeal-Peanut Butter Bites {recipe coming next week}, fruit {I peel the clementine ahead of time since they only have 30 minutes to eat...and talk!}, Greek Yogurt {with sprinkles, of course} and the orange variety of the Fruit Shoot.

These Peanut Butter Roll-Ups are a sort of deconstructed and then reconstructed sandwich. It's enough of a difference that my first grader still eats them. I paired them with fruit, cheese, pretzels and mini veggie kabobs.

The roll-ups are super simple to make. I use peanut butter and honey on ours.

So after giving them a thorough kid review, we really like the Robinson's Fruitshoot juices. One thing that stuck out to me was how easy these were to open. My older son has Aspberger's Syndrome and fine motor skills can sometimes be challenging. Juice boxes can be frustrating for him...I was pleasantly surprised that he could easily pop the tops on these open {even with his mouth, boys!}...and they're even no-spill!

This fun hydration drink is perfect for kids who desire fun on the go. It contains real fruit juice, no high-fructose corn syrup, and no added sugar. Hydration is fun for kids and easy for moms.

These vibrant fun colored bottles come in tasty flavors of Orange, Apple, Berry Burst, and Strawberry/Raspberry.

With purchase of Fruitshoot, there is the option for a free download of an Angry Birds game, perfect for parents to play with their kids. Download the Angry Birds game and enter the code on the back of your Fruitshoot bottle to play!

How do you prepare your kids' lunches?

  4. I love all of your lunch ideas, but please, HOW do you keep the yogurts and stuff from smooshing all over everything?! My boys cannot be the only ones tossing their bags around the playground before kicking them all the way to the classroom. I've been asked not to pack fresh fruit because it can't take the handling!

  5. They are all such great ideas, Kristi!! I need more :) My son's classmate is allergic to peanuts so they can't have any peanut butter products in their lunch box :(
He loves it at home though!
