Vintage Eclectic Family Room

Our vintage eclectic family room is one of our favorite spots in the new house.
It's filled with fun and playful patterns and colors and a big comfy couch.
Come check it out below (and enter a $250 giveaway to Minted!).

This room was interesting to me from the moment we walked into this house. I *think* it used to be a bedroom at one point in time (and was even marketed that way in the listing). But, it doesn't have a closet, nor do we have a need for a 5th bedroom. Since it's located next to the room that will one day be my parents', we want this to eventually be their living room. But, for the time being, we love how cozy it is and secluded from the main parts of the home. It's a nice little hiding spot. Check out it's makeover below.

So, this room came with some challenges. Originally, we saw it with carpet. Since it was going to be a living room, we wanted the same wood/vinyl planks in it, so the carpet came out and we discovered this gem of mustard yellow vinyl.

I'm going a bit in reverse...but this was how we originally saw it above.

Here's the exact same angle of it now. The dresser is the one of my grandma's that I used to have in my dining room in our old home. I thought about changing the top two drawers into a shelf for all of our equipment...but I honestly didn't want to mess this piece up in case I want to use it as a dresser again later.
We decided to keep the main living area of the house tv-free. As my husband puts it, "we need a room to just flop in". And since the main living room is very open to the front door, we knew that it would be kind of untidy if that were the "flop" room. This is the perfect spot to flop in. It's located next to the kitchen and completely away from our bedroom on the other side of the house...so it's perfect for kids' sleepovers, too!

Starting with a white sectional makes it easy to bring in fun colors.
I tend to always gravitate towards red and aqua.
I grabbed these super fun pillows at Minted. They have so much fun home stuff!

I grabbed this piece of artwork from Minted, too. It came framed and ready to go.
A little nod to our love for Brooklyn, y'all.

Our two little side tables are actually vintage school desks. I acquired these back when we lived up in the panhandle. One of the elementary schools was getting all new desks and sold their old ones for fifty cents each! They came with little chairs, too, but those didn't fit in here. When my boys were little, we had these set up in our living room (facing each other) and they ate their breakfast there every morning while watching Sesame Street or Caillou (oh, Caillou). It was pretty sweet. I did paint the desks before bringing them in here. They were originally brown, and then I painted them cream...now they're the aqua.

Love that I can remove the pillow covers to clean!

I tucked our old entry way table behind the couch...a perfect spot for lamps.
That family pic had been in a closet for the last few years, too.
Glad to have it out again!
