Ready or not...it's that time again, y'all. Time for backpacks, freshly sharpened pencils, lunch packing, and of course, new shoes (my favorite part). School is just around the corner...are you ready? Download my free morning routine printable below (and check out our new shoes for the big day!).
We've had a wonderful summer...but all good things must come to an end, right? Before long, we'll be off and running and looking spiffy for that first day of school. But, these two turkeys don't just roll out of bed like this. We've used morning routine lists for a number of years to make sure we're ready to rock the day.
These lists have really given my boys a sense of morning ownership.
As you can see, we make sure we're dressed from head to toe before eating breakfast. If we can get to this dressed point, then it's all downhill before we hit the door. Even beds get made before breakfast. They may not be perfect...but we do the best we can to get off on a tidy foot.
This year, the boys wanted a preppy look for back-to-school. My oldest son isn't as style-conscious as my younger one is...but he always follows what little bro wants to do. Last year, we were sporty...this year, preppy all the way. Isn't it fun how your style changes so frequently when you're that age? I love that they chose Sperry Top-Siders. My dad has worn Sperry Top-Siders (or boat shoes, as he calls them) for years. So fun to see my kids wearing them now, too. Not going to lie, I've got a few pairs myself (they're the best, no?).
We grabbed our Sperry Top-Siders at Famous Footwear. Check out their #ohsofamous style gallery here to get inspiration for your own back-to-school looks. And be sure submit your own style to the #ohsofamous gallery, too.
Aren't new shoes the best? Definitely one of the best ways to kick off a school year.
Getting stuff ready for school is one of the last items on our list. I try to have their bags ready the night before. In the morning, we can add their snacks and lunch boxes and then hit the door.
Can't decide how we really feel about school starting. At least we look good, right?
Do your kids follow a morning routine? I have to say, we love ours. Since starting this a few years ago, it's really helped mornings to flow much smoother. These days, the peeps get up on their own and do it all through breakfast...which sometimes is cereal they pour themselves, too! Since my husband and I both work these days, these types of schedules are much needed (even if I do just work from home...mornings are still hectic).
I created the same exact schedule as above, but also with check boxes (for those of you who love a good check box...I know who you are!).

Both are great for lamination so they last all year (and then some). Plus they work great with dry erase once all shiny and laminated.
This list will have those kids out the door in no time, y'all. It's so fun to see them take ownership of their own mornings.
Happy Back-to-School Season!
