My 25 Favorite Free Chalk Fonts

You guys know I love a good chalkboard free printable
Here are my go-to fonts for creating them, links to download included:
{and two free chalkboard backgrounds}

25 Awesome FREE Chalk Fonts and 2 Chalkboard Backgrounds. Includes download links and examples.
I've been kind of amazed at the amount of emails and messages you sweet peeps have sent me about the chalk fonts I use. The truth of it is, I spend way too much time on font sites...looking for fun ones. I thought I'd share my absolute favorite free ones with you here. I've included the well known 'quick brown fox' line so you can see how every character looks in the font {upper and lower cases, when available}. Below the images are links for you to go and download them for your own font library.

And of course, what would chalk fonts be without chalkboard to use them on?
There are two "chalkboards" for you to download at the bottom of this post as well. Or grab some for free from my friends over at GraphicStock here {free seven day trail going on now}.

And while you're at GraphicStock, be sure to download some free doodads and dingbats for all of your chalky-fun printables and projects, too. Click here to head over there. These are some of my faves below:

{When downloading free fonts, please keep in mind the artist's terms of use, which can be found at each download site. Also, I am not in any way affiliated with the download sites...or the ads they display.}

Chalk Font List Two

Chalk Font List Three

Below are two chalk backgrounds for your use {personal use only, please}. I've gotten into a new habit of just printing them and framing them plain. I found the coolest new chalk pencil that I now use on my real chalkboards as well as these printed papers {for quick signs or fun notes}. They're so much fun to use and I feel like I have a lot of control over my hand chalking.

{The above is an affiliate link, but I strongly love this product and felt compelled to tell ya all about it.
By purchasing through the above link, I do earn a small commission.}

Here are some of the free chalkboard printables I've created:

    1. Thanks for stopping by! Any photo editing software {like Photoshop or Photoshop Elements} or illustration software will work. I've, personally, never used it, but a lot of people like the free site Picmonkey for this kind of thing.

      Enjoy the rest of your summer!

  13. I love these, but when I printed one out, the background is just a plain, dull black...does not look like the chalkboard that it does on my screen. :( The fonts look great though! Thank you!

    1. No problem, Beth! It's something you can use in any graphic software to create these types of printables. I use mine in both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. A lot of people like to use the free program Pic Monkey that's available online. :)

  30. These are so nice. It is great to hve everything all together. I have a quick question for anyone who may have done this but is is possible to turn this into a stencil? I bought chalkboard stenciled sayungs for making signs that I really like but would love to be able to make my own with my own words using these kinds of neat fonts. I figure there must be a way, I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for providing what you already have. I dont mean to sound greedy. Maybe a program or web site if you know of one. I am not exactly sure what to do with an image or printable once you get it.

    1. Thanks so much! I *believe* I bought them from Canstock, but it's been over a year since I posted this, so I'm not 100% sure. That's where I buy most of my stuff. I've also font some great fonts that are dingbats for frames and lines, too. Search "frames" over on DaFont for a bunch!

    2. KRISTI! I want to state first that I am so grateful for your SUPER QUICK response! I just happened upon your page after a google search for "chalkboard fonts" to use in Photoshop to create a "first day of school" sign for all three of my boys! Needless to say, I am so excited that I stumbled here!

      As for the "frames," the quite ones available on DaFont are perfect for right now! They work great! Thanks so much!!!

    Tip for using the chalk background: I converted the pdf into a jpeg (Search: pdf in jpeg, that schould give you plenty of tools for doing so) and used that jpeg as background in PowerPoint.
