The inspiration for this easy farmhouse sign came from one of my favorite new books! There are two simple ways to create one of these pretties.
Check out the tutorial below.

The farmhouse look is so fun...it's something I've enjoyed for quite sometime. This sign adds that perfect little farmhouse touch to any space, especially a kitchen or dining area. The original project came from my friend, Liz's, A Touch of Farmhouse Charm book. It's chocked full of so many simple-to-complete, yet show-stopping, projects! I'm sharing the sign and the book below.

Liz and I have been bloggy friends for quite some time. I was honored to be a part of the bloggers helping her launch this gorgeous new book of hers. Y'all, it truly is INCREDIBLE (it's already in its second printing and just came out this month!). Click here to grab yours over on Amazon Prime.

This Milk & Cream sign caught my eye immediately. I put my own spin on it with the colors from our home in the sign I completed in this post. Liz's idea on this one was nothing short of genius...just grab a frame and remove all of the "stuff". All you need is the glass and frame itself. Grab one from a thrift shop and you're good to go.

This is just one of many, gorgeous farmhouse tutorials in the book.

My sign loving-heart was in heaven flipping through the pages of A Touch of Farmhouse Charm. It's the perfect, budget-friendly how-to guide to get the farmhouse look with simple and beautiful projects (like hand-made signs...YAY!).

Pictured above is how my Milk & Cream sign turned out.

I used the colors of my home for this one to put my own spin on it. I also used my vinyl machine...because I'm super lazy and better with graphics than hand lettering. Liz's tutorial in the book is perfect...even if you don't have a vinyl machine!

Farmhouse Sign Supplies

  • 8x10" frame with glass (or whatever size you'd like to try!)
  • either vinyl lettering or permanent marker

  • Start by removing everything from your frame, but save the glass.
  • I took my tutorial a step further and painted my frame with chalk paint.
  • After the chalk paint was dry, I used coarse sand paper to rough it up a bit.

Vinyl Method

  • If you use a vinyl machine like I did (I have a Silhouette), one of my tips is to reverse your lettering. I applied mine to the backside of my sign.
  • Since this will sit on my kitchen counter, chances are it will be exposed to splatters and grease and all that fun. I put the letters on the reverse side so they're somewhat protected. Then the glass front is plain and easy to clean.
  • I simply applied the vinyl to the glass and then put the glass back into the frame. Instant farmhouse charm, y'all.

Sharpie Method

  • Print off the wording for your sign in any word processing program, making sure you like the look of it. I have lots of free farmhouse fonts here that would work well for this project. Be sure to keep your frame size in mind when creating your wording.
  • Print out your wording.
  • Lay your piece of glass over your printout and trace the lettering with a Sharpie marker. You may need to let it dry and go over it again for better coverage.
  • After it's completely dry, add the glass back into the frame. Super simple!
