This Bordered Sign Paint Tutorial is a super simple one to follow.
It's a bit of humor for my bathroom, too, y'all. ;)
A couple of weeks ago, I shared our DIY Floating Shelves here. I loved that several of you caught my silly little sign above the toilet. Feel Free to Seat Yourself, y'all. Check out this simple bordered sign paint tutorial below.

I just used a leftover piece of 8"x1" lumber that I cut down to 7" tall to fit my shelf.
I sanded the edges really well...I like that smooth, rounded look.
I did one lightish coat of red chalk-style paint.
I didn't use a second coat since I was going for that worn look.
I added vinyl lettering that I cut with my craft cutter...you can easily find vinyl lettering at your craft store, if you don't have a craft cutter. I used painter's tape to create a small border...just to make this a bit different than my normal signs.
I went back over the vinyl and the edges of the painter's tape with more red paint.
This is an easy way to seal the edges of the lettering and border.
After the red dried, I went over the piece with yellow chalk-style paint.
Then I peeled off the tape and vinyl. The current vinyl I'm using leaves a slightly sticky residue behind. I actually like it on pieces like this. When I sand them down, the sawdust kind of sticks to those spots...making them look even older. It was kind of an accidental happy.
Sand well.
Since this sign was just chalk-style paint, I used wax all over it to protect it and kind of deepen the colors.
I'm loving the simple little border on this one.
I think bathrooms are way too serious. This is just a simple way to give guests a smile.
