It would have taken A LOT to tip them over. If you do the four bags, that is a lot less space for actual plants/roots and it makes them much heavier, which puts more pressure on the wood. But, it definitely wouldn't hurt. I'm sure the other questions relate to how sturdy an 8 foot post is near the top since lot of tension is required to secure the shade sails. So to rephrase the question, how easy or difficult is it to wobble the top of the 8 foot post in this setup?
