DIY Coffee Tray

This little DIY Coffee Tray was simple to put together.
It's perfect for lazy Saturday morning coffee in bed...one of the best luxuries.

DIY Coffee Tray | Create this simple little 12"x12" tray out of a wooden canvas and a fun painting technique.
I feel like bedside coffee is one of those little luxuries in life. It's not fancy...but it's very enjoyable, you know? A few years ago at a conference, I roomed with a friend who ordered coffee service to the room every morning...and I was instantly hooked. Ever since then, I've started doing that when we stay in hotels that provide that service. And I really love doing it at home. Our bedroom is on the other side of the house from the kitchen. My husband is a doll and started this little practice when we moved into our new place last spring. Every Saturday morning, he brings coffee to our bedroom. We've used this large melamine tray that I've had since college and it was massive (and slippery)...cups would slide all over the thing. I thought it would be fun to make a small tray that would work perfectly for our in-home coffee service situation. I modeled this tray similarly to the large one I made to corral items on my kitchen island...using a wooden canvas for the base. But the difference is that this one is smaller and mobile. Check out the entire tutorial below.

Lace and Drop Cloth Table Runner

This Lace and Drop Cloth Table Runner is an easy beginner sewing project that can be completed in a couple of hours (or less!). It's a great way to add some texture and dimension down the middle of a dining table.

I'm also sharing our favorite Lipton Iced Tea in nifty ready-to-drink bottles, below, too.

Lace and Drop Cloth Table Runner | Sew and neutral farmhouse table runner with a drop cloth and lace. Complete tutorial.
As the holidays are rapidly approaching (wasn't it just August, y'all?), I'm turning my attention to our dining room. Since this is our first year to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in our new home with my entire side of the family (there are LOTS of us), I'd like to make this space a little more "us" and customize it as much as I can in what limited time I have left. One thing that's been on my list forever has been a new table runner. Our dining table is a family heirloom and I love it...but it presents its own set of issues due to its massive size. To accommodate only half of us, (we're a big "auxillary" kiddie table family...only because we need the space at the regular dining table), it has to have all of its leaves in place...making it nine feet long. It's also a very wide table...almost four feet across. So, traditional table runners are always super wimpy in here. I've tried to make them work, but no bueno.

If you recall, last year, I tried to add some fun to the middle of the table with the large centerpiece box I built (see that post here). It's a fabulous box, but in our new dining room, it looked out of place. AND, it was truly a bit tall when filled with decorations...making it difficult to visit with (or even see) the person across from you at the table (hindsight is a real thing, y'all). I have big plans for it elsewhere, but it wasn't destined for the dining room in this new house. In all honestly, I want our mealtimes in here (holiday or not) to focus on the people...and having a large, invasive centerpiece just seemed to block out a lot of the conversation and memory-making. Sometimes, I need to reimagine the dinner experience...keeping the people in mind, instead of just the decor and food.

So, I decided to keep it simple this year. I created a runner that would be plenty long and wide for this crazy table of ours. I'm really happy with how it turned out, y'all! Check out the tutorial below.

How to Launder A White Slipcovered Sofa | Here is a step-by-step guide to get your couch sparkling clean.

When we bought this white slipcovered sofa last spring, my mom thought we were out of our minds. I mean, two black dogs, two preteen boys, and a busy family schedule...I can see where she was going with that. But, the beauty of a slipcovered sofa? It can be washed, y'all. And it looks brand spanking new every time.

This is quite possibly my favorite sofa we've ever owned. Having a white sofa is great for decorating...just switch out the throw pillows and you have an entirely new look (I can't wait to show you guys the holiday pillows that are going on this couch in December...squeallll!). Fall Buffet Decor

Today’s Fall Buffet Decor post is sponsored by Hobby Lobby,
but style inspiration and opinions are my own.

I revamped my fall buffet decor after a fun little trip to Hobby Lobby.
I mean...have you seen their fall decor, y'all? It's serious eye candy for all of us autumn lovers!

Fall Buffet Decor | Fun and simple ideas for fall decor in the dining room.
As all good stories on DIY blogs start out, this one begins at Hobby Lobby. My husband and I were on a date there last weekend (yes, Hobby Lobby is definitely a date option when you've been married for almost 14 years...it's totes romantic with all of its foliage, y'all...and our kids weren't there. That all equates to a legitimate date.). We ended up getting a few new fun things for our dining room buffet. As the holidays get closer, I'm trying to work a bit more on this room, since this will be our first time hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in this new home of ours. Check out how we made this space over below.

How to Make Your Home Smell Like Fall

This post about How to Make Your Home Smell Like Fall is sponsored by Grove Collaborative.
All opinions are my own.

Today, I'm allllll kinds of giddy, y'all. I'm sharing this AMAZING post in collaboration with Grove Collaborative and the new line of Mrs. Meyer's Fall Scents! Are you a Mrs. Meyer's fan? (You know I am!) She plays an integral role in making my home smell like fall right now. And we're giving away FREE sets of her fall line (valued at $30+) to I Should Be Mopping the Floor Readers with $20 purchases from Grove Collaborative (click here to grab yours). This is a very limited promotion (both time wise and in the amount of free kits available), so you'll want to jump on this one!

What's the best way to make your home smell like fall? Layering. Layer, layer, layer the fall scents! I love to use fall soaps, fall cleaners, and throw on a fall candle. I use a lot of the fall essential oils this time of the year, too.

My favorite fall scents are apple-ish in nature. The new Mrs. Meyer's Apple Cider Scent is one of my favorites around. Like my friend, Erin, said: "It makes you want to smell your hands all the time!" (She's referring to the hand soap there, but you probably got that).

Want to grab either the Mrs. Meyer's Apple Cider or Mum Scents for free? This promo is only good through the weekend (and while supplies last), so click below to find out how to grab your free kit.

Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.

This antique-finished tray was fun to put together...it's made from a wooden canvas and cabinet drawer pulls. With a fun little paint technique, it looks right at home in my kitchen now. It's perfect to organize kitchen goodies and for entertaining...especially in the busy fall entertaining season.

Do you decorate with trays? I just love how they can, literally, tie a lot of random goodies together...for a pretty vignette. I also love to stack dishes and silverware on trays like this when we entertain. They're great for organizing, too. I have a lot of things on my bar area and they were in need of a good tidying up. This worked out perfectly.

Painted Dollar Store Pumpkins

My chalk-style and milk paint was provided by Plaid Crafts.
This post also contains affiliate links.

These painted dollar store pumpkins turned into the perfect filler for my dough bowl. I was so excited when I saw them at the Dollar Tree the other day...their textures are really unique. With just a little paint and fun, they now blend in perfectly with my decor.

Remember when I said I wasn't purchasing any new fall decor? I'm not sure what in the heehaw happened, but that notion went flying out the window. My intentions were noble. But my love for pumpkins was not. My only excuse here is that these pumpkins were from Dollar Tree...so legitimately just a dollar. Each. Never mind that I bought 15. I still saved sooo much, right? I better just stop trying to explain my way out of my habits right now. But do check out this fun painted dollar store pumpkins tutorial below.
