First day of school photos are our favorite, y'all. And I just love documenting the day with a fun printable. This is WAY easier for me than scrapbooking. This year's first day of school printable is rainbow-riffic and ready to go!

Let me take a moment and freak out that I'm about to have a sixth grader, y'all. What in the heehaw? And I'm so happy that he's cool with letting me take first day of school pics with cutesy signs still. Hoping that he's still smiles all the way through high school, too!

These signs are such fun keepsakes every year.
Here are some tips on getting the most of your first day of school pics:

First, I love printing my signs at home (you can download the ones I designed below for your own kids). Printing at home gives me a bit more control of the outcome. We have a new HP Deskjet 3636 and it's perfect for this. I love that this printer has wireless capabilities. Now, that my kids are older, they do a lot of printing on their own. I set this printer up in a central location so they can easily access it from their devices, too (because, y'all...it prints wirelessly from devices. BOOM.). There's even an optional quiet mode to help keep printer noise to a minimum.

The HP Deskjet 3636 is brand new and available at Walmart. It's also in three super fun colors to match your home or office decor (of course, I had to have the Vibrant Red). It also comes in Dragonfly Blue and Sporty Purple.

I'm loving the HP Deskjet 3636 because of its value. I can print up to twice as many pages with Original HP high-yield ink cartridges before replacing (and I do a lot of printing, y'all!).

It's nice to keep it simple with this affordable all-in-one printer. We can print from our smartphones or tablets. We can also quickly print, scan, and copy (and that happened right out of the box). The space-saving design is also a lifesaver since this is in a pretty central location.

And yay! We can access coloring pages, recipes, coupons, and more with free HP Printables. This printer is not only great for the back-to-school season, but all year long.

Check out the HP Deskjet 3636 on the Walmart site here.

Second, load your printer with a good, white card stock for these kind of signs. This is especially important if you decide to use it without a frame (but a frame makes it super cute!).

Set your printer to its best output level and give it a go!

Next, I highly recommend using a fun frame with your printable. It really makes it stand out. My kids chose these fun green ones. And I can always reuse them later...maybe with their first day photos IN them! ;)

A frame with a fun color is a great contrast to the white background on this printable.

Don't use the glass in the frame when using it for your photos.
It will eliminate glare in your final photos if you leave the glass out.

Taking photos outside is also a must. The colors will be so much prettier and vibrant.
And finally, have fun with it!

Not 100% these two are ready to go back to the grind, but it's still a fun and exciting time of the year as we get into the swing of the school schedule. My husband is a high school principal, so all three of my guys are about to be back at school.

  3. I wish I would've done something like this for my kiddos' first days of school! They are now nearing adulthood. I did take pics but looking back at them it's hard to tell what year it was. (Yeah, bad momma!)

  5. I love these printables. They are so cute and a great way to easily remember how old your children are in their school pictures. It makes it fun to look back and compare the previous years pictures with the current.

  7. Haha. Somehow I doubt your sons will still be smiling as they pose in Grade 12. Enjoy it now! What a cute idea, and a great way to document how they're growing up. I need to get a printer that's good for photos, as I take all these digital snaps but don't bother printing them, so they're eventually be lost to the ages. Now you have great keepsakes.

  8. The printer is especially useful for all sorts of things and not just for printing school stuff. Printing labels and stickers is fun and great if this encourages kids as well. HP is a good brand.
