Modern Rustic Fall Mantel | Contributor Post from Heather

Hi! I'm Heather from Southern State of Mind and I am thrilled to be joining  you today for my first Home Decor contribution post!

I love making my house a home, and nothing feels more like "home" to me than a house decorated for the holidays. The first day of Fall is THIS Sunday, y'all!

However, while this girl may already be in a Fall State of Mind- here in Atlanta, it doesn't quite feel like fall yet!

So I set out to decorate my fireplace mantel with elements that would easily transition between the seasons...

My decor style is fluid and I believe that decorating your home is a journey.
Don't be afraid to try something different!
mix new + old...
mix traditional + industrial...
mix neutral + color pops...
and why not mix MODERN + RUSTIC?

I love incorporating rustic elements to introduce warmth and comfort.
I believe a little rustic detail can change the entire feeling of a room.

 Including the fresh sunflowers,
this simple mantel came together for less than $10.

Step 2: Stain
Add a coat of stain for a modern look as well as more color contrast.
Found this Pecan color in the oops section of Home Depot.
Not quite free, but at under $2 I'll take it!
Modern? Check.

Step 3: Stencil
Found a horse silhouette online and print.
Tape it together to form a stencil and then tape it to the pallet.

Step 4: Spray Paint
I gave the pallet top a light coat of Rustoleum Heirloom White spray paint.
I actually tried to not give it full coverage for a weathered look.
Free? Check. (I had some on hand)
Modern? Check.

Step 5. Style
Is there ANYTHING spray paint can't make better?

  2. I love your mantel! Blue mason jars and sunflowers are two of my favorite fall things and I think your horse pallet art turned out to be so cute.
